Category Reference, Subcategory General Information
The reference category is broken up into a number of subcategories. The most widely used subcategory is general information. Internet domains that are placed into the general information category are done so in a catch-all capacity. General information may contain brochures, company information, data on general topics and other similar kinds of information. Domains that are not .gov or .edu or in a charity capacity may use the general information subcategory. Domains that are created for the sole purpose of expressing information regarding a specific or general topic would fall under this subcategory however, encyclopedias would fall under the main category of reference or the subcategory of encyclopedia and dates of coverage.
